you could try this link http://www.familyhealthguide.co.uk/depressive-illness-the-curse-of-the-strong.html  or there is a little paperbook book of the same name that is fairly inexpensive, I got mine from Amazon.  Despite my husband having lived with my depression for around 20 years he still really didnt understand things so I read him parts of that web site and it did help him understand.

I find it depends what I say to who I'm saying it to regarding my own depression, my mum who doesnt seem to believe in depression I simply tell her I'm suffering from nervous exhaustion and it seems to satisfy her, some friends I can tell the whole thing, others I am selective but I always say that I'm extremely tired and its making me lose interest in things that I would usually enjoy.

I hope this helps

Mmm i suppose its difficult for each person.

for a female you can say. well it feels like having really bad moodswings and loosing a pet or friend, while suffering from PMS while being in a room of spiders, snakes or any other phobia you have and not being able to get out but you are the only one who can see them and feel it which makes you feel scared and alone because everyone else thinks you are making it up. But its real to you.

Or its like being stuck in a nightmare and not being able to wake up.

Thats how i explain it.
