New but shy...
« on: October 20, 2011, 12:20:42 AM »
Hello,

I joined last night but I've been a little shy about posting. I guess I'm finding it a bit scary. I've suffered with forms of depression for the last 15 years or so. I also self harmed through my teens and I have a lot of anxiety problems. I've really lost my way through it all and sometimes the state of my life terrifies me.

I've not been on many forums as I tend to be quite stand offish and quiet. I think I joined because I just wanted some support and a place where I could be honest about how I feel. Sometimes that can be so hard with family and friends.

I like to think I am quite a friendly person despite all my issues. I really hope I can fit in here in time.

Hi Both,

I'm Pete and I would say I am newly diagnosed, newly realised but a sufferer of some form of depression for a long long time.

the first step is the hardest and that is to realise and accept that "something" isnt right. The next step is to do something about it and by joining here you have done both so the rest may not be easy but it will be easier.

I said in one of my posts here that life( with or without depression) can be a rocky road but when you walk it with a companion its not as hard or as dark. This forum has a whole lot of companions and it really does help so try and stick with things and each other.

If you havent yet sought medical advice make that your next step. If you cant tell the doctor whats wrong, type it out and hand it tothem.....the rest will just happen.

Hi, welcome :)

You'll find everyone here friendly and very understanding and I know you'll get a lot of help.

I agree with everything Pete says, especially that the next thing you need to do, if you havent already, is to go to your GP
