I need a good, cheap private psychiatrist in London
« on: December 05, 2014, 11:33:23 PM »
Could somebody kindly recommend one to me? My communication has totally broken down with my NHS psychiatrist, and he refuses to describe medicine for me, even though I suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression and anxiety. He let me try different medications, but as they either didn't work or I got side effects, he then said that obviously medicine doesn't work for me. I'm totally distraught and nearly suicidal. Hope somebody can help me. Many thanks in advance

I am sorry that relations with your psychiatrist have broken down, but it happens regularly. I just ought to point something about "cheap". I knew someone who went the private route. Their initial one hour consultation cost £300. I think routine sessions after that were £150 an hour. You might well find cheaper but I doubt by very much.

There is a second route you can take and that is to seek a second opinion. That shouldn't cost you anything. I am sure you'll have used
Google and found any number of psychiatrists in private practice. London isn't my area so I can't recommend anyone. I wish you luck.
Sometimes the light is shining on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange, trip it's been

Unfortunately with the NHS as it there are too many 'chiefs' and not enough medical staff.  I have found out it's also a lottery when it comes to quickness of getting medical treatment.  It's far quicker up north, or at least in the north east, than down south.  When we lived in Essex I had several x-rays done due to worsening osteoarthrits.  It took 4 1/2 months and nagging from my surgery - we had moved up north by this time - before I got the results yet it should have taken 14 days.

It is expensive to see a psychiatrist so I can't give you good advice.  It's a shame that you're suffering when it's obvious you need help.
