Hi George!  Welcome to the forums...

My Christmas was poop too...  Well...  Was just a normal Wednesday with poorly cooked turkey and not much more than that.  My family are spread all over the place and not very functional to say the least.  I got drunk that was about the highlight for me :)

Kind regards :)

 :welcome:

Christmas isn't my favourite time of year.  During the year I do quite a but of voluntary work but over Christmas and New Year all that stops for a fortnight.  Personally I'd rather be busy at this time of year even though I need the rest.

Hi George

This a very tough time of year and it is understandable you are not enjoying it. We are all expected to be happy and join in the festivities when it the last thing we want to do. I would have been quite happy to finish work Christmas Eve and wake up on New Year's Day when it was all over with  ::)

Same as you Craig the highlights have been getting drunk. I have had a lot of "highlights" this year!!

Hello George,
I hope you can find some comfort and a safe place here in the forums.  We are all in the same boat so help each other out.  I find Christmas lovely cos I have something to focus on and something to aim for and keep myself busy.  However, once it is over I am left in this void with nothing to focus on or to look forward to.  New Year I always find the hardest cos it took every effort to get through the last year so to face the present one on day one is so daunting and I wonder if I will make it.  I first started with depression and self harming during the New Year period.
Hope the replies to your post make you realise you are not alone

Hi George.

I'm a newbie too but I've noticed that everyone here is very supportive and kind.

I don't celebrate Christmas, I refuse to acknowledge its existence so thank goodness that's over with.

I never thought I'd see 2014 so I foundnye a bit strange and just got absolutely smashed on alcohol and weed.

Hi George, hope you managed to survive Christmas.  It can be quite a strain.  Even with family it can be a lonely time of year - I had to keep going away to hide for short whiles; fortunately sleep is easy for me and I can escape that way sometimes.  Now Christmas has passed and hopefully some form of reality or normality will start setting in.  I have been told 'never mind, it's a new year now and new beginnings, new hopes' - at the moment it just looks like a long stretch of much the same.  Here's to us and overcoming some of our thoughts and feelings.

I hate the whole New Year, new beginnings, new me bull&$%+.  I find New Year so tough cos it was New Years Day when it all began for me 10 years ago.  I do find that people are less sympathetic, for want of a better word, as people, even friends, just say everyone feels like that in January it will pass.  This response makes me feel like such a fraud like I should be able to snap out of it but I can't.  I then end up becoming more withdrawn cos I don't feel like even my closest friends understand me.  I'm like you chocsrus, I don't find sleep an issue so can always escape that way, which does help along with alcohol and getting so pissed I don't know who I am or what I am doing.
