If you have a sick note it will give your illness on it,  if you're only off for the first 7 days I wouldnt even though by law you cant be discriminated against for being ill

If you mean do you have to tell work about your diagnosis and medication, then I think you would only have to tell them if your medication would affect your job, for instance if you drive a HGV or a fork lift truck, and your medication makes you drowsy as it may affect your employer's insurance.

If you choose to tell them, they can't discriminate against you as depression is classed as a disability now.

I haven't told my work and I wont do unless I have something to explain.

In an ideal world discrimination wouldn't happen but I believe my honesty would be held against me in the future (new jobs, promotions etc) and that is why I keep it to myself.

I have never told work, i was diagnosed / put on medication in January and whilst the meds were taking effect i felt really "high" and "fuzzy headed".  As i am a very quiet person anyway no one noticed (partly because people in work do not care anyway as long as you turn up for work).  I have never been off ill with my depression although my doctor has offered to sign me off which i have said no to (for now) but if i ever did need to tell work then i would but so far i have not needed to, I do worry that if I tell work i will be deemed unsuitable for my job and they may find ways to get rid of me (beieve it or not that is what my doctor said and she advised to not tell work for that reason) so that doesnt give me much hope about confiding in anyway hence why i suffer in silence in work, and its so hard as i sometimes relapse in work and have bad times but i just go to the loo and cry it all out until i calm down.

Would like to get the old me back.....

Thanks everyone,  there is a theme with most of the reply's and it is sadly as I thought better not to say anything.  I work in a call centre so no issues with machinery / forklifts (thanks for the heads up KateG).  And as for Laurab you wee trooper,  well done. Even when things are bad you keep on going, I too struggle at work and next time I will be thinking of you.  I do hope things improve and you don't need the loo as much (for crying purposes)

Thanks for taking the time to help.
