Title: SAM-e for Depression
Post by: David Peters on July 19, 2022, 03:59:47 PM
Hello everyone

I'm new to this forum so hope I'm posting in the right place. I've been suffering with Depression [and other mental illnesses] for about 14 years now, been on a variety of antidepressants and Olanzapine which was helping up un till two months ago when I had a really bad viral infection. None of my meds seem to work anymore, tried different dosages but no benefit at all.

Someone I met recommended SAM-e which is prescribed across most of Europe but here you can just order online without a prescription. Has anyone here ever tried this or currently using it? I'm looking for other people's experiences before I order some to try.

Anyway thanks for reading and hope your all keeping well..

David

Hi David, I've had to google SAM-e as I've never heard of it.  It's not exactly cheap either and I tend to be cautious of trying something 'new' unless a doctor says it's okay but then again it's virtually impossible to even talk to a GP in our surgery let alone see one.

I swear by 5-HTP for my depression after my AD (Citalopram) had an allergen in their new recipe.  Sorry that the Olanzapine isn't working for you any more... might be worth asking for a referral to a Psychiatrist to discuss other anti-psychotics - I wouldn't be alive today without my 7.5mg every night!  Would it be worth asking to try a slightly higher dosage maybe?  I started on 15mg of Olanzapine in 2002 and have been able to reduce it as I've lost weight, so maybe it's just that you need a slightly higher dose than you're currently on?
