Hello, my son has just told me he is going to go and see the GP about the panic attacks that are stopping him going out with friends. In the past, I've been prescribed propranolol - what else works for people? Also, he has tried various different anti-depressants - any suggestions for long term treatment? Thanks.

The GP will prescribe the best medication for the combination of drugs he's on. Personally I am on flupentixol.

Hi LTM, Alstare is right, your son's GP will prescribe the most appropriate medication for his depression and panic attacks; my depression is long term and I'm on citralopram, probably for life, I also have meds for my panic attacks but I only take them when needed. I found prozac worked well for several years but then it stopped being effective, citralopram is the third type of antidepressent I've taken over the last 20ish years, I think sometimes they become innefective and need changing, again, the GP should alter medication as necessary for optimum results
