Title: Dream Jobs
Post by: Bexwa on October 27, 2011, 05:13:42 PM
What did you always want to be when you grew up?

(I'm 27 and I still don't know for sure!)

How long did it take you to get your personal license? I wouldn't mind getting my own too. I would love to run a pub.

I've always wanted to be Cabin Crew, but my fear of flying always gets the better of me on that one lol.

I would have loved to have been a vet too Zaf, but I get too attached to things and I think it would really hurt me when something happened to one of them.

I'd have ended up with more waifs and strays than I already have if I'd have been a vet  ::)

O that's good. My auntie was a landlady for 30 years and I've grown up in pubs so I want to do it too. What do you have to do to get your license? Is it hard?

you need to complete a qualification... its called the award for personal license holders (APLH LV2) then once you have done that you need to get a crb check and send in the application to your council where you live :) xx

Hello..... I always wanted to be a vet when I was a kid, love animals and always have done. I did a animal care course at college when I left school which was really good but didnt end up doing anything with it and at the time thought I wouldnt be brainy enough to go to uni and study vet science.

My dream job now is to work as a mobile beautician, I have been studying for the last 4 years - swedish massage, reflexology, nail services and this year doing Indian head massage, aromatherapy and stone therapy, so I'm on my way :) Hoping to have my own business one day....I can dream eh!!  :) I like the way the holistics and nice pretty nails can make people feel better about themselves :)

I think if I could go back in time, I would train as a doctor, I have such an interest in the human biology and how the body works that being a doctor would have been an interesting and satisfying job, being able to help people get better :)

I wanted to be a vet i love animals too but my parents told me I wasnt brainy enough. I am 34 and still don't know what to do with my life. I have tried a few things. I also wanted to be a hairdresser when I was wee because I had a nightie saying "I want to be a hairdresser*

I wanted to be a spy. Even had an interview with MI5 when I was 21 as a data analyst, decided it wasn't for me.

If I'm to be honest chasing ambition has been part of the journey of my depression...chasing a dream or trying to escape reality? I'm getting closer to my dream job all the time...but it doesn't make me any happier.

But anyway, yes...spy. I'd get to shoot baddies and fly around in a jet.

when i was very young i wanted to grow up to be a jedi...nope, no kidding...a jedi. i was convinced i could be luke skywalker if i tried hard enough.  ::) the effects of watching star wars way too much (never thought i'd utter those words!)

then i got a bit older and just wanted to escape reality...life on a desert island with no need to worry about my role in society and the demands and expectations of others, just the basic necessities of survival without all the bells and whistles that modern life attaches to confuse and disorientate us.

now...? dunno.

Escaping reality is one of my dreams nowdays too, probably a house in the middle of woodland on he shores of a lake or banks of a river, total peace and quiet and no hassles....

Between the lot of us we had some pretty good dream ambitions! Hairy could be our Jedi, Zaf and Angel our vets for when Hairy gets a bit ill, Dan can sort us a decent cocktail out, Nicky can make me look pretty and the team and Stevie can make sure no one is following us on our quest! lol and if there are any trees in our way, Cornish can sort it out :)

Yes it is lovely around the lochs. The highlands are beautiful. My dad is from Skye and we all have a soft spot for it. I live in Glasgow but it doesnt take long to get to a loch or the sea.

I'd move to Scotland tomorrow if I had a chance, my husband's family is from the Peebles area, but they dont live there now.

I love the lochs and he wild parts round Rannoch especially but think most of it is very special :)

I used to want to be an Astronaut and when I grew up a little bit more I wanted to be a Drummer in a heavy metal band.

I still do want to be a drummer, but in my last band I was the bassist.
Look at me.... a rhythm section all rolled into one!
haha

I remember very vividly pretending to be a vet when I was little.... so much so, that I drew scratches (from all the animals) on my arms with permanent marker....  ::)

I never had any idea what I "wanted to be", I am 33 now and work as a maintenance engineer, it's a good job that pays well but I don't like shift work particularly.

My dream job I think would be running my own business supplying something to the public where I can share my enthusiasm to help people make decisions on their purchases.

I have to be careful though as I tend to get new hobbies and tire of them quickly, so any business venture has to be something I am serious about :)

When i was 6 I wanted to be an archaeologist. Now I hate muck and mud so glad I never went down that route.

I'm 39 now and still have no idea what I want to do. (I have had 2 great jobs but one changed all their systems to computers and was dull as dishwater after, the other got sold to an american company :o(   )

I want to be a bestselling author, to write and direct dramas and see them as big hits on the tv.
so far im working on it!

Go em89!!
I like writing but since I joined a writing group I've had quite bad writer's block! And i'm rubbish at writing conflict!

dlg78 - I know what you mean about wanting to share your enthusiasm. Me too but I never got a job where my opinion counted for anything. I also have a tendency to lose interest in things so am equally stuck when it comes to choosing a direction.

Good luck both of you.

I kinda like my real job though when Im fit enough to do it.

i wanted to be an archaeologist at first, my parents said i wasnt brainy enough so i gave up on that idea. i had a secret job that i never told anyone about which was to be a teacher which is what i have ended up doing. although i quite fancy being a lawyer, writing a book. but mostly would just like to escape to an island that has views of the sea and sun all year round!

I'd love to be a travel reporter. Just to be able to travel around the world to far flung places meeting people from so many different backgrounds and cultures, it would be amazing! Alas, I don't ever see this as a possibility.

I worked in a pub from 14 (doing odd jobs. To kitchen. To barwork)

My plan was to get my license and get my own place.. but then the trade went down hill bigtime, and I couldn't afford to do it.. so gave up.

Always fancied the RAF, i've had 2 chances to have a go, but never had the balls to do it.

Moved to Leeds in 2006, started a degree and left because I found it boring. And I lost my interest in computers completely because of itn

Now I work in security, I'm a supervisor and work days only... I'm on a powerstation building site... which should be done in a year... then I dunno where I'll be sent but I'll most likely find a new job.

Not sure what I want to do.

I'm interested in cars.. engines, bodywork etc... but this was a late interest and wish I went into that trade at 16 , now its too late to do an apprenticeship... but I'd love to have a business in something I enjoy.

I've just given up. All I want is money to get by, as easy as possible.

My OH got a job - purely by chance - working in a local motor factors, the place where he had been going for years to get the bits for all of his old bangers *cough* I mean, loves of his life  :P He has always loved cars but didn't really want to go down the mechanic sort of route - he works in the main shop and does delivery runs and he absolutley loves it! He loves cars and he's dealing with them all day - yeah, there are customers that get his back up when they want windscreen wipers fitted in the pouring rain, but its something he is confident in and therefore enjoys  :) maybe a job like that would be an idea? He didn't need a whole list of qualifications, just knowledge and a passion for the trade x
