Title: Any advice on tax in the UK please?
Post by: Amanda_George on March 27, 2015, 07:33:56 PM
Hello everyone

I got 2 filled in tax things from my publisher in America with the post this morning.  I've already paid 30% (no, that's not a typo, I really have paid thirty percent) tax in America, but do I need to fill in a tax return or anything like that over here please?

I don't pay tax on health stuff but do I need to let Mr Tax Man/the benefits agency know about my $12.40 gross income in 2014?  I know I'm not allowed to work while I'm getting Benefits (I asked before doing paid surveys and again for mystery shopping so I haven't done either of those, but creative writing is a hobby, not a job!)  I still write even though I don't get paid for it usually!

Should I phone the CAB about it on Monday or anything like that?

It's a good idea to check with the CAB.  They can also advise you about work and claiming benefits.
