I do understand about the self harming as I did that from the ages of 19 through till I was 43 years old which is the same age I was finally 'officially' diagnosed with depression. Before then I knew I was depressed - from early teens - but was told constantly by my parents that I was attention seeking and just moody. It was the only way I could cope with letting out the pain. It was a combination of being depressed and not knowing how to deal with it and because I had been bullied and coerced into surrendering my son. We reunited in 2004 but then I had to deal with the damage adoption had done to my son. He has had a very good upbringing and is loved but has major issues with adoption. What made it worse was him finding out I had wanted to raise him yet he believed I hadn't all his life. Before then he believed I wanted him adopted. He found my parents who continued the lies right down to telling him they didn't know where I was for 5 years ::) - lovely family I have.
