Title: Basic steps to get up & have a little motivation?
Post by: bex8844 on September 08, 2013, 03:27:14 PM
Hi there. I lie there sometimes and feel so depressed that i can't get up. I'm just wondering if anyone can help me with some basic steps to motivate myself when i feel this low. Thanks in advance.

Hiyya bex,

I have been there before and started taking small steps to pull myself away from doing that.

the smallest thing is a start, so ... even if its getting up and taking yourself out of that environment for a while its something...

I started this topic and although it seems positive Im not following it atm but it helped me stay focussed at the time...

I hope it helps somehow

Hi Craig, thanks for the link, & yeh that sounds like a good one, getting out of environment.. the odd time i've been to a place at the start of the peak district called dove stones, it's beautiful & i feel good when i've done a walk round there... trying to get myself to the park.. but it doesn't always happen, i did go on saturday though so i am proud of that :) on my bike just for half an hr.. going to 'try' to do this everyday (she says) it's not so easy though is it when feelings so low

no it isnt easy in the slightest and its so frustrating as its just a mental thing... not actually being physically restricted makes us beat ourselves up even more..

Keep to your small steps, even if you dont make it to the park at least you can take the positive that you have tried.... try not to beat yourself up if you don't make it ...its where I am right now I was making such positive steps and doing so much but ive just .... stopped....I wouldn't say ive given up but I just haven't been doing much at all :(

Your welcome, that does sound lovely, I challenge you to take a picture next time your there and show us how nice it is :)  no pressure though ... you don't have to at all :P

I suppose that's where I am fortunate that I am married and have pets.  My husband isn't the world's best for feeding the furbabies so no matter how depressed and unmotivated I get they give me a reason to get out of bed.  He's not very good for making meals either so another reason.  I'm also one of these people who gets very paranoid abot who I smell when I'm very depressed so will have a bath regularly.

Hi Graig,

Well I've moved now to Cornwall so i will have a nice photo to post shortly :) even nicer than dove stones. Yeh it's frustrating when we're not physically restricted but it affects us physically, i wish i could exercise more, just don't have the motivation. I've been referred to a well being worker through the doctor and she's great, she's sorting me some food vouchers out and applying for this 90 pound thing where i can swim or draw or do whatever i wish with it. I feel quite excited about that & hope it helps me feel better.

Hi Pip, thanks for your response. Yeh my little peanut helps me get out of bed too, what are your furbabies? i like to have a nice hot bath with candles but  i don't wash everyday i must say. i try to brush my teeth twice a day and use mouthwash as this is the place most bacteria builds up i think..

I've got an 11 year old lurcher / border collie cross that looks more like a whippet called Bruno, Chyna who is 10 and a rottweiler that is people friendly  , Tasha a 5 year old cat and two budgies.  My husband does actually their cage out as he wanted them and I have a bird phobia.  I've got quite brave though with the budgies as I will pick them up and let them go on my fingers.
