long story - quick version
saw a pysc i didn't know (nothing unusual in the current service) tried to explain in what was limited time what i needed. just got a horrible letter that he has sent from to my gp saying a really twisyed version of the meeting and making me seem derranged. feel so low about this. i will have to put in a formal complaint.
just what i need more paperwork

There's nothing worse than feeling at odds with these Psych's. I have faced similar predicaments. The last thing we want when we're dealing with depression is to complain. However, it does pay to insist on what you feel is right. I've also had a few dodgy letters go to my GP from Psych, they're not always right
-
I am going to launch a fprmal complaint - time for their own medicine i think - for all the actual help i get from them and the salary they draw. i can demand better.
-
Good for you !
I feel quite lucky that I always see the same consultant psych & she is fab
Xxx
-
they have had changing psycs for two years
-
That's just so annoying, no continuity of care.
-
and now this letter that has set me back 6 months
-
Does your GP say much about the situation?
-
got letter this morning - part of next week will be on the phone - again
-
Hope you manage to get some luck, the psych really needs to know the consequences of his actions!
-
I intend to not only cp
omplain but push it as far as it will - there are some people who practice in mental health who give us a hard time and get away with it because we usually let it go. well. not this time.

Go for it iggy, but be prepared. I took out a formal complaint against my CMHT, including demands for a new Psychiatrist. Let me tell ya, it was not easy, I ended up complaining about the ruddy complaints procedure!! But, at the end of the day, it left them in no doubt of my thinking or my needs. One year later, I have a new and a very brilliant Psychiatrist and probably one of the best CPN's.
I always say, it pays to moan! Seriously though, for anyone who is experiencing problems with their CMHT (and there are many) Make a point of complaining or challenging their service. Accepting a shoddy service or insufficient care plan is jeopardising our MH and our future.
-
I wish you well with this. Knowing that your sticking up for yourself has given me extra confidence to take a stand and say something. When you've asked for help and feeling your getting non can make the hole we are trying to get out twice as deep
-
i don't think i am ever going to grt over this feeling
-
I hate it when people twist your words.
I'm interested as to hw you came by this letter as I don't get to see anything written to my GP.
-
They send me a copy every time they send a report to my GP. Believe me is going to regret this - i am going to the patients complaint support group and insist on a hearing. If nothing else happens he will have to sit and hear what it os like to have mental ill health and be treated badly by someone who was supposed to help. I am not just angry for me, but for everyone in my situation. He must earn over £60,000 a year. He didn't read my notes. He was rude and he has undone 3 years of hard work.
-
Leo... every time I see my Psychiatrist, she writes to my GP with a brief summary of our meeting and sends a copy to me. If you are under a CMHT and Psychiatrist, you should also have a written care plan, which I insisted on.
Iggy, I know only too well how it is to feel aggrieved by the actions of a thoughtless Psychiatrists. It seems they are renowned for it. Standing up and clearly stating your feelings, if nothing else, does develop a better understanding of your needs and expectations. However, from experience, I know how frustrating and infuriating this process can be. In the end I had to give up the fight for my own sanity. Nevertheless, it did me many favours in the future contact with the CMHT
-
I know it will be hard but I am going to make him meet with me and hear me. I will end it at that. I have no further interest beyond that. If he is still working in Leicestershire at that point - he will hear me. He will have to retire or leave the county to ignore my complaint. I may be ill but stupid I am not.
-
Sorry to hear of your trouble, iggyelvis. I can sympathise, having had a bad experience with a psychiatrist around 4 years ago. hated the guy at the first meeting because we were going to change my meds, and he stopped me mid sentence to tell me time was up, then wanted to schedule the next appointment a few weeks into the future. I was so angry about it, i just stopped the meds I was on to force the situation; otherwise I'd have been another month on Citalopram and he had already mentioned cutting down at a ridiculously slow rate of change so that it'd take me a couple of months to get off the stuff after the next appointment.
I felt angry, abandoned, let down and adrift at the entire system, so I had to take control of the situation. I hope that you can regain some dignity and control. give 'em hell!
-
Good for you Iggy. If people do not speak up he will be allowed to continue doing this. If he has done this to you then he has probably upset countless others :(.

I am a great believer in standing up especially in the MH services. If nothing else, it has helped get me a new Psychiatrist, probably one of the best CPN's with a solid "care plan".
I've heard loads of bad reports about off hand psychiatrists and shoddy CMHT's. I used to also think they were mistaking my MH for being stupid; a bit dim and not really on this planet.
We can only change what we stand up for!! Good luck Iggy

thanks everyone for your support. i agree with your points - many have had all had bad mental health workers and been made to feel like it is out fault. I also think that someone who hands out bad practice is someone who does as a matter of course.
my complaint has been lodged

CaptK... what do you mean "like button"? Do you mean like on Amazon when you click "I like this"? The Forum doesn't have one of those
