Post by: bb on February 21, 2013, 06:35:46 PM
Part of me is lonely.  Im hurting im feeling needy like I need constant attention.  Find it so hard telling my husband how I feel. Yesterday was the better day so far this week . Then boom just cant face struggling at work. I cant hide what I feel, im in the public view all the time. Nowhere to hide .

Its very hard to put a face on for people when all we want to do is run and hide. Only people that suffer can truly understand.

When we're down it is easy to feel needy because nothing can fulfil or ease that depression.  It doesn't sound like you have support around you.  Is there anyone/services you can reach out too?

The only person who totally understands depression & supports me is my mum.  You know I don't know why but I find it really hard to talk about depression to others.  Mainly because I don't think they understand and also because I dont want to be seen as attention seeking,  asking for help. So I tend to try and hide it from people.

I do much the same bb, but it mainly because I am paranoid that people will think I am a nut!  Generally, people do not understand acute depression.  Most people have felt a bit down from time to time, I believe they mistake our depression as similar and are confused why we can't pull ourselves together.  It's nice you can speak to your Mum.  A lot of parent's are not as understanding.

Yes I dont want to be branded a nutter either. People can be ignorant enough to think you need locking up .

I also tend to keep quiet about my mental health problems. People that do not suffer or understand have no idea what its like and tend to make things up.

I'm a newbie here but didn't want to read and run...

I can identify with a lot of the things people are expressing in this thread and I'm still getting used to believing that I'm not the only person who has these inner struggles. For years I've struggled, but to see my own thoughts so accurately written and experienced by someone else is a bit surreal.

Like so many I hide it from pretty much everyone. partly I'm very private and shy, but also the paranoia and other self-esteem issues prevent me from having the courage to tell anyone.  Of course the downside is that when things get bad, I've no one to turn to.  Not even my wife understands what it's like and things aren't particularly great there anyway so I can't bring myself to talk to her about it. I'd rather shut myself away from the world, but work and college have at least forced me to keep up the momentum over the long dark winter.  But I'm tired from the effort of keeping the mask on day in day out.

thanks for your kind words, bb.  Yes, it is good to talk, its often cathartic.  Didn't meant to hijack your thread, was trying to offer you some words of empathy in there too.
