Title: Suitable books?
Post by: Jon on December 15, 2012, 05:24:48 PM
Hi folks.
I'm completely new to this site. I'm not sure whether the book section welcomes suggestions of books that specifically are about depression. So I'm tentatively going to propose Sunbathing In The Rain by Gwyneth Lewis, by far the best book on the subject I've ever read. It's wise, witty and ever so helpful in terms of how to manage those feelings that, when they are upon us, feel completely unmanageable.

Thanks Zaf. I can't recommend that book highly enough. It's written by a Welsh poet, someone who has suffered fairly horrendous depression herself. Reading it feels a bit like having a conversation with someone who knows what you have been through and has many coping strategies to share. I'm finding that, as I read it, I'm feeling less scared about feeling depressed, at least for the time being. But, as I guess we all know on this site, any relief, however brief, is a blessed relief. Just to have that mood lift for a little time, to almost forget that one is depressed for a few precious moments, is a blessed relief.
