Title: Anxiety Has Me Completely Twisted
Post by: Martin on December 06, 2012, 08:18:38 AM
I have to get my head sorted and get rid of all these trembles inside that are becoming debilitating. Going to try some breathing exercises and a bit of meditation today. Phew! My head is so bent and twisted my body is in shake rattle and roll...

Breathing exercises are supposed to be good.... I am fortunate in that I only live a few minutes away from the beach so I can walk along the beach whilst deep breathing....hope you feel better...

Thank you. We live minutes from lovely fields and walking there is great. Outdoors with Merlin (our awesome dog) is wonderfully caming and therapeutic.

I wouldn't know what I'd do if I couldn't walk the dog

Hope you're feeling better

All in all not a bad day. A couple of relaxation sessions but also some lovely communications with a few people that made my day. I love interacting with people and that keeps me 'up' as best as 'up' can be on some days.
I will be working on building a habit of relaxation techniques as I need to stay positive longer than a few minutes at a time.

I'm thinking of going to a local yoga class - does that help with anxiety and negative thoughts?

I would certainly think so - the meditation aspects must surely help.
I'd certainly give it a go.

All in all a good day.
I didn't actually do any breathing exercises today but had a decent day.
Felt some anxiety briefly but I got through it.
I'm so used to my tummy churning it's sometimes hard to know if its the normal level or a little bit extra.

I've noticed that one of things that sends my anxiety soaring is drink. I had 3 pints the other night with some chums (I don't often drink that much these days) and the next day I felt anxious for no reason - this has happened before.

I heard a sports physcologist talking on the radio this year about the way he works. His basic idea is that our thoughts are controlled by 3 "elements"; a human, a computer and a chimp.  Now the chimp has control most of the time, but gets his clients to override the chimp and get the human / computer to run things as the chimp tends to panic, to be disbelieving and I could add to be illogical.  I keep thinking about the chimp when feeling anxious now and try to override him. What do you think of this idea? Does it help any?

Also have phoned someone I know who runs a yoga class and will start next week.

That's a very interesting way of looking at it.
Drink is never an issue for me as I haven't drank for many years and wouldn't.

I shall have to over-ride the chimp!
Good luck with the yoga and let us know how it goes.

Funny thing when you mentioned the chimp; one of my favourite CDs of all time has a monkey has a recurring character throughout it. Roger Waters "Amused To Death".

What breed is your dog?

I have a Rottweiler who thinks she's cute and a lurcher / border collie x who looks more like a whippet.

Merlin is a beautiful Golden Retriever... Meet him here:

Just got back from an hour in the field with him... Wish I had taken my camera as there was a lovely sunrise coming over the hills, through the trees...

I've been trying to show you my little Jack, but apparently the pic is to large, or something.  Got confused with Photobucket..... and that's as far as I got so far.  He is a gorgeous dog

Can you shrink it first or just include the URL to the pic?

I'm not sure what all that means, but I'm working on it.

I have felt really anxious today and have found something that seems to work for me. I've been lying in bed with incense sticks burning. I watched the flame and just tried to clear my mind. Again almost like meditation. Definitely worth a try xxx
