Hi I've just been diagnosed with stress and depression (I'm on 20mg citolapram) and just wanted to know if this dose will help me get better or whether the doc will increase it.
-
Hi and welcome *()
That dose can help but from what I believe from my GP you need to start on a low dose to begin with as starting on a higher dose can cause nausea.

Hello and welcome, I am on the same dose it is working but still some down days I do not want to increase it really are you getting any other help CBT etc?
-
Hello and welcome to the forum.
Your meds might not work instantly need to give them time to see if they are working or not, if not likely enough it will be increased
-
What is cbt?? I've heard of it but doc hasn't mentioned it
-
I just feel so frustrated by it all. Sometimes I sit down and think I'm feeling better but surely the meds can't be working after just two weeks

Cognitive behavioral therapy a short course is normally available free of charge, my anti depressents kicked in around two weeks it varies for everyone

Thank u everyone for welcoming me. Had a bad evening last night but feel ok today. This is a strange illness!!
-
Hi Brad, and +_+. I'm glad that today has been better for you than yesterday.
-
Hi Brad!
It is a very strange illness lol, please try to ignore the negative thoughts that are telling you you won't be getting better etc give it time, you'll get there xx
-
Hi Brad and welcome I started off on a low dose and was gradualy increased.
-
Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. I do feel like the citalopram has calmed me down but it's just the negative thoughts that bother me. Went Xmas shopping with my wife yesterday and couldn't handle the crowds. I really freaked out.
Hope everyone else on the forum is ok??
-
Brad it is totally normal to be feeling like that but the meds will help make these annoying symptoms go away.
Remember that until your medication kicks in properly, to some extent your depression is still progressing hence sometimes feeling that you are getting worse. Give it some time, it is not easy but it will go away.
I had a tough day yesterday but today seems better thank God!
-
Brad.... hi and welcome.... it's very possible you could be experiencing calming effects of Citalopram and that in turn will have a positive affect on the depression.
The symptoms you describe while in busy areas, is typical of depression.
Hope you find the Forum helpful
-
Thank you. I do find this forum really helpful as its easier to talk to people who understand this illness. I feel calmer on citolapram which I needed and haven't had many side effects. I'm going back to docs tomorrow for check up so we'll see what happens.
-
This forum is a lovely place, being able to chat with people that understand means a lot. Hope your dr's appointment goes well tomorrow S x x x x

-

-
Glad to hear you are doing okay Brad :)
Been doing okay too today, lots of relaxing and sleeping :)
-
Glad you are ok book. Lots of sleep is always good!! I've lost interest in all things I used to enjoy but tonight I'm gonna try to watch the football
-
I know, the loss of interest is a pain in the backside!
Am going to try to watch sthg with hubby tonight too xx
-
Had a bad panic attack last night, really hate them as they are the worst part of this. Don't feel any calmer today but gonna take my citolapram soon so hopefully will start feeling better
-
Hi Brad,
I've suffered terribly with panic attacks. But I find them easier to deal with now. I went on a stress management course and one of the units deals with panic attacks. Since then, I am able to control an attack, and even stop them when I feel one starting! I highly recommend. It's totally free. I got mine through the counsellor at my GP surgery.
Hope you're feeling better now x
-
I'm going to check with my doc about that thanks. Feeling better today so just taking each day as it comes. How is everyone else on the forum??
-
Glad to hear you are feeling better today, panic attacks are very frightening.
