I've had a really tough year and have had time off work because of my depression. they are helpful most times but are sticking to company policies when it comes to times off sick and the disciplinary routes. Anyone else have trouble with their employer?

Hey, I've been off since June, and yes my employer is going through the same official routes.... Have to meet once a month and discuss when ill be back, and how they could get me back into work...they're wanting records from docs now! Just waiting for that to happen then it'll be another meeting....then I expect, as they have warned, I'll be let go!! (slight relief to be honest)
Unofficially my boss is lovely about it, but as a big global company they have to follow all policy, and nothing I can do about it, other than get well by xmas...and I can't see that happen, as I have a serious social phobia, and I work in retail!! lol
If I could give them an idea about when I may be well enough to come back, i know they'd keep my job open for longer, but I can't give them that!!
I think it was my job that was a part of the catalyst, so I don't think I want to go back!!
Mine is long term, but if yours is sporadic, I',m not sure how it would work, because mental health issues are classed as a disability and they can't discriminate! But they have to go through the channels, and try and work something out for you...like a change in hours etc. If they are shown to have done everything they can for you, then there is only one option open to them! It'll be pretty much up to your boss with how long she can keep your job open, they may keep it open for a long time, but they still have to do it properly, to cover they're backs too!

Hi , yeah I'm in retail too and it's my memory that can sometimes let me down, plus crowds make me stressed! Xmas is coming up jeeze there's gonna be loadsa people :-/ , I had a day off last week went I totally distressed had to come home. I've spoken to a union member for when things get difficult.Sounds like my employers aren't realizing it's a disability. Thanks x
