I did computerised CBT, it was ok but really did not help that much.  But my one to one counselling really helped me.  We are all different and CBT may help some people.

When I had cbt, I could see how they wanted me to look for the positive in everything but it just wasn't happening.

I've had one series of CBT sessions in which I didn't make much progress - but I don't think that was due to my lovely therapist but the fact that I was sinking deeper into depression and stress due other factors. So I was struggling to engage in the process as the depression was taking over. It does require your full involvement to work, and it's not for everyone - but timing is definitely important.

I'm now seeing another therapist who has talked about how instead of simply challenging thoughts we could look at how I could disengage myself from negative thinking. I think it's a matter of finding the right approach at the right time. But I've also been reading about Jungian therapy and will explore this next if CBT doesn't work. The reason for depression and how to treat is very different for all of us, and it probably takes trying a few different ways before you find one that fits. A good therapist should be open to exploring all of this with you. If you're not sure about your therapist and the dynamics, I think it's absolutely fine to ask to see someone else.

Hello,I can relate to you all,I really dont get the cbt,I find it confusing and not really helpfull to me,the therapist is really nice and she is trying to help but the cbt istself I feel is not on the same page as me,also I feel that althought i thought i was in the thick of depression I now know that I am just at the start and its slowly consuming me,Think i need to make changes sooner rather than later,I have put another post up today explaining my feelings more about depression...thanks for the replies everyone
