I work in a factory environment.
As some of you may know its a pretty destructive environment at the best of times, never mind with a depression also.
It's bitchy, full of gossip and rumours.
Only 4 close friends at work know what has happened to me and I had to tell 2 members of management in a meeting.
I'm really angry to be told via fb, that my 'illness' has been blabbed across the factory!
I am not sure I can even face going back into that environment, let alone now that everyone knows!

Thats disgusting. Absolutely no right to do that. I work in HR so I feel quite strongly about this stuff anyway but surely they're breaching confidentiality by doing that? I'm so sorry, thats an awful position to be put in :( thinking of you xxx

That's disgusting. You should speak to your Union rep.... you would have a good case for suing them for ''Constructive Dismissal''. That kind of gossip is purely down to unprofessional management. Sorry you're having this to deal with. Seriously considering raising a complaint

So sorry your having to deal with this it is horrible but having worked in many enviroments it is sadly all too common people dont know when to keep things to themselves and they only have to tell one person in confidence and they do the same and bingo everyone knows. I always made it my rule to keep stuff to myself if I knew it would hurt that person if I repeated it and never ask someone about stuff unless I was sure they wanted to talk about it.
Dont know what the best thing to do is but sometimes not giving the gossips the reaction they are looking for is good revenge but I know it is easier said than done. Management should sort this out hugs to you

I remember when I was signed off last year the rumour went round that I had Malaria. I didn't but I let them think that because its none of their business so I didn't feel the need to correct them. I wasn't there to defend myself and once they did realise what was wrong with me they continued the chinese whispers amongst themselves. You don't need to talk about it to anyone, confirm or deny. Its personal and they should have known better. As already mentioned, i would seriously consider putting in a grievance. Xxx

My only problem regarding a complaint is I don't know who has blabbed.
Just coincidence it was after I spoke to management, one was my HR manager. She is a huge gossip unfortunately!

Some people are just rubbish Leo!
Let them think what they want, they'll never know if it is true or not anyway if you don't tell them. Tell them you had health problems, if they act differently then just sod them, some people will always be like that regardless of what you do / who you are / what happened to you.... just let them gossip if they have nothing better to talk about in their lives! Some good may come out of it you know: some people will come up to you and say "I have had depression" / "my husband gets it too" etc etc, some others will want to help and be compassionate. If none of this happens, just sod them, can't stop people from being horrible!
