Post by: hopeful on September 06, 2012, 12:44:36 AM
Have any of you gotten a tattoo which represents your journey with depression?

I'm hoping to get my first one soon..would love to hear what other people have done.

I have tattoos but they don't have anything to do with my journey with depression.

I'm a coward... don't fancy the needles or pain.  Bad enough getting my nipple and nose pierced, but at least they're over in seconds... although, my nipple did throb for days!

The thought of those peircings make me feel all shuddery inside  ::)  ears were bad enough - tattoos are less bad than peircings imo

My tattoo has nothing to do with my depression either, it has a great deal to do with a dare with my best friend at university though...  :D

Ouch!!!!  I could cope with my ears being pierced (3 times both ears) but too cowardly to have anywhere else pierced.  I'd rather have tattoos done  "!+

Thanks guys. I've decided on a lotus - in buddhism they symbolise the struggle to reach enlightment and overcome struggles and problems. And long before I knew this, lotuses have always been my favourite flower just for how elegant and lovely they are.

Would love to know what your tattoos are of though Pip, Shaz and Zaf? Where are they and how much did each one hurt?!

A butterfly on my upper thigh/bum and my chinese birth sign on my bikini line, the butterfly was mildly painful, the birth sign not at all

I have a rose on my chest, a bird on my right upper arm, interlinked hearts on my left upper arm and my 'fun' one is a unicorn on my left shoulder.  I love unicorns so couldn't resist that one as it is pretty

Part of my depression stems from a lot of grief. For a 30 year old I have sadly had to deal with a lot of death so on my right foot I have 12 stars. 1 for each person I have lost. Some are bigger for family and the others are smaller for friends. In a very strange way they calm me. It's my own little way of remembering each and every one of them.

What is the tattoo of? I'm hoping it's nothing too bad!

I have a tattoo but it has nothing to do with depression. I have more piercings than tattoos. A friend of mine is currently working on my next tattoo design which has a little more to do with it.

Els, that's a lovely idea. A small memory which is really effective :) xx

Never had a tattoo, but like them a lot, seen one or two awful ones, and both my sisters have them, I almost got one done last year, ( Please don't laugh ) my gorgeous Black cat was run over outside our house, and I broke my heart, she was such a loving kind creature, and spent a lot of her time asleep on me/following me, or asleep on my son ( usually sprawled over his back while he played on the x Box ) she was called Britney, and was a rescue cat, and very loving, I almost got a black tattoo done on the inside of my wrist for her, but didn't fancy the odd looks when I explained why I had a tattoo done for a cat, and not a family member.  ( I got as far as drawing it on paper ) than gave up.
