Have been depressed on and off since the age of 17 (1st bout I can remember) and I'm now nearly 53. It runs right through all the women in my family. I've tried all sorts of counselling but the only thing which steadies me is SSRIs.

Hello +-_ and welcome to the forum. If the medication works then its best to consider staying on it. I have been told that I will probably be on a maintenance dose for life.

Dear Greycylinder, reading your post again, yes it DOES seem a little strange that we are saying, " Hey, you're suffering from depression too. Whoohoo!! &(* "
The people here ARE very supportive and helpful, and it is a good place to let off steam, and ask for advice. Best wishes.

Hi, yes I know what you mean but having just had an awful evening trying to celebrate my son's 18th and my husband telling me to cheer up all the time, I was so glad to get back home and talk to others who understand. I've been married for 17 years and with my husband. He ruined our summer holiday by being a moody old sod and now he said...'just cheer up' !!!!!!
I hate cold weather and I hate boats. He's just suggested we have a weekend away. His ideas........... a canal boat holiday in the North or a driving/ferry weekend in Northern France. I think he's having a laugh, don't you? Oh, and a 3rd suggestion, walking up Snowden in October. I have sacroiliac dysfunction and can't walk uphill.
