Hi Guys,
I've been told that it sometimes helps to 'name' your depression. I know Spike Milligan used to call his The Black Dog.
What do you all think of this and what name do you give yours?
-
I'm not sure if it helps but I think of mine as a big black pit or sometimes a huge dark scary forest

Fluffy
The name of the three headed dog in Harry Potter
1. it's sometimes asleep
2. it's got more than one personality
3. Music makes it feel better
4. it's big and scary
Head 1 is anxiety
Head 2 is depression
Head 3 is the real screw-up - all the bits I can't identify
-
Or maybe I should call it something banal, so I can laugh at it.
Like Graham
No offence if anyone is called Graham.

Mine is a big black pit too. I had just clambered to the edge of the pit and was climbing out. Now I am sliding back down into the depths
-
The word I use for mine is how I feel when I am bad and its Dread.

I used to call mine the black dog too. Maybe we should opt for silly names, like Fido or muffin....
-
It was Winston Churchill who called it his black dog.
I simply refer to my depression as depression, I am unsure of how giving it a pet name will alleviate my clinical symptoms. Anything I would name it would be deleted by the administrators anyway, as profane language is not allowed.

Me too, i'm chuckling to my self as I type, thinking of all the obscene things I would call it. ()_

I've never thought of giving it a name! I think it's a good idea :)
