Title: Hello
Post by: Lavenderblue on June 09, 2012, 09:08:09 PM
Hello, I have suffered from depression and anxiety on and off for many years. I am in a bit of a dark tunnel at the moment and my family don't understand. My son called this morning and asked "what is wrong now". Well the same thing as last week, last month and last year. I am depressed!!!  I have a husband, and two children at home and 2 grown up children who have left home. They all seem to think I can sleep it off and I'll be fine in the morning. Prozac not working any more, and I feel like giving up. I need a friend and a shoulder to cry on. Surrounded by people but I feel so alone. Sorry to be so miserable. Hopefully I can get some help here.

Hi and welcome :)

It might be worth seeing your GP to discuss your meds, Prozac stopped working for me after a few years and mine changed mine and I found that helped

I agree with Zaf, it would be a good idea to have a chat with your dr about your medication, I was on Citalopram at the start of my depression but ut stopped working, so I was put onto a different one.

I have also had the Mirena coil fitted for gynae problems, I was reluctant as I was worried about depression worsening, but the medics convinced me that side effects were rare and worried me with the possibility of cancerous growths, and the mirena would stop that. I have a feeling my depression has worsened since mirena was put in. Going to ask about having it removed on my next check up.

Hi there.

I have 2 friends who had severe depressive symptoms after they had the Mirena coil fitted. They both ended up having them removed and it made massive improvements to their depression. In fact one stopped depression meds 6 months after the coil was removed and has not had any depression since.
Not saying that your depression would be cured overnight but it's worth considering whether the coil is causing you more bad than good??

Hello lavender.... you must not apologise for being "miserable". It's good to off load and hear feedback from others who understand. I agree with the others - it is difficult to understand depression at the best of times, but when it's affecting someone close, it can be much harder to take. I learned very quickly to look outside the family for my main support. This forum is an ideal place to fulfill some of that.  You should chat to GP about med. We all need to try several anti-deps before we find the one that suits our individual needs.
