Can anyone relate to this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misophonia
I thought it was just me but I get intensely irritated when I hear certain noises, eating, breathing etc. I certainly didn't realise that there was an actual name for it.

Yes, to some degree. As a kid I used to share a room with my two sisters and would be frustrated with the sounds of their breathing. It used to drive me potty. Same with noisy eating. Oddly enough I can cope with people who snore a little better but have used ear plugs for very bad snorers. My nephew snorts at the back of his throat a lot and that drives me crazy too.

I most definitely relate to that too, didnt know there was a name for it either

Absoloutley.... Mostly the noise of other people eating, also when I'm in a group of people I am very paranoid about eating on front of them and the noise I make, I could never eat a bag of crisps or an apple when I used to have lunches on the staff room at work ::)

I absolutely hate the sound of people breathing, especially in their sleep. I used to share a room with my sister and I could not stand the noise, so glad I have my own room now.

My husband snoring drives me to distraction :(

I'm with Munchroom, it's eating for me, either myself or others.

Things like chain saws and strimmers really get to me too

completely and utterly!!!! this has plauged me for years!! it has caused me so much stress over the years!! I sleep all the time with ear plugs in. There is a older guy in our house who coughs alot and feel like exploding every time I hear it. The more sensitive we are to noise the more we wait in anticipation for it to start up again.
There is a quote by Schopenhauer the philosopher, something like this "There are people who are not sensitive to noise, those same people who are also not sensitive to arguement,or art, or poetry, the reason being is the tissue of their brains is of a rough or coarse material" ...or something along those lines, I cant quite remember it but it struck a chord with me

My daughter is autistic and has something a bit more along the lines of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperacusis , she gets scared and over-stimulated by certain sounds. We find that wearing ear defenders really helps her. I've tried it myself and there's something to be said for the peace one feels with a little sensory deprivation.

Thats a good idea :)

That quote is spot on mrmoody, thankyou for sharing it x

Just recently David snoring is driving me to distraction :(
-
Zaf...you have my sympathies as I had this with both ex's and Ana even tried to place the blame on me, that somehow I had woken up as I was a light sleeper and by me going downstairs I had woken her up and therefore I was being selfish and had 'woken the whole house up'.....go figure that one! what added insult to injury was that after we split up she went to the dentist or docs and got a dental plate that helped stop snoring...and she also lost weight. two things she refused to do or accept while with me. Maybe David can get a dental plate also to help him with snoring

When I'm severely depressed I feel the same.
-
I've never heard of it mrmoody, a good dig in the ribs with my elbow often helps ;)
-
:D Zaf, that's my usual snore prevention method too!
The sound that annoys me most is OH's son eating. He is a lovely lad but so (bleep) noisy when he eats, it makes me want to scream

Chris has a tounge piercing... I'm not sure that helps with eating noise. He's not actually that bad, I think its more my hyper sensitivity to it. An ex of mine (also with a tounge piercing) was terrible though.... And my sisters children! :-\ lovely kids but I'm sure they seem to make an effort to see who can slosh it around thier mouth the most....
My Dad is the same as me.... I wonder if is its hereditory?
