when depression is at its worse i struggle to watch tv or films as just cant concentrate howeva at times when on the road to recovery i like to watch childhood films that i enjoyed back when i was younger as it reminds me of better times and the less problamatic times as a child i had etc...
my fave up lifting films are... the goonies
ghostbusters
indiana jones films (any older ones not the new1)
does any one else find childhood films easier to watch eg feel good films if so what are your faves????

My all time fav film is Pretty Woman, know it word for word and always makes me cry.
The Green Mile, it was as good as the book which is unusual.
The Bridget Jones films too, always gives me a giggle.
Also love the Disney films.

I found 127 hours uplifting when I watched it a few months ago. Shows what self belief can achieve, if you can tap into it.

For me it's Disney films, Ab Fab and Labyrinth, especially that last one, could watch that everyday. Oh and despicable me, I know it's modern but I love it, always cheers me up :)

Its one of the only films I have read that is so true to the book.

I know, I hate when the film differs wildly from the book, for example, the film of Stephen King's It misses out the last HALF of the book, and the film Hannibal has a complete different ending to the book! It grinds my gears it does!!

I love all those films too, goonies and ghostbusters, indiana jones. Im the same i also love films from my childhood. I also love back to the future, star wars, et, flight of the navigator. The old disney films like mary poppins, bedknobs and broomsticks. But it is very hard to concentrate when you are feeling depressed. I just wondered, when you suffer a period of feeling very depressed how long can it last?

flight of the navigator
I love all of those you mentioned but this is often forgotten - uplifiting and realy evocative of the 80s.

It can be very variable Danielle Z x

I agree it varies for different people. I know when I was first ill, I kept asking when was I going to be better again, I just wanted to be able to take something and make it go away, but it doesn't work like that. Wish it did though :(.

I watched Ace Ventura of all things yesterday !! I watched it with my 11 year old son and he hooted with laughter all the way through - listening to him made me have a warm fuzzy mummy feeling ( one which I haven't felt in months). So many thanks to a naff film and Jim Carrey all rolled into one !
p.s. I am in no way recommending this film as it's pretty poor really but who can resist a laugh !

Ace Ventura Pet Detective always makes me laugh, when he is coming out of the rhino's bottom ;). Even makes me laugh when I am down.

I laugh just thinking about it ;D. The other film I found funny with him in was Bruce Almighty when he made the news reader gabble, I was crying with laughter.
