Title: God Damned CAT!
Post by: Ally on February 26, 2012, 10:06:54 AM
Can anyone help?
I have 2 cats, one is more than content to use the scratching post, but the other uses anything but!
We just got a new sofa and she is starting to scratch on that too.
We always tried to stop her scratching on the last one, but when you are upstairs in bed at night, it's really difficult to catch her in the act!

We have tried the spray stuff to try to stop her, and I even used some catnip spray on the scratching post to try to get her to start using that.... but she still prefers everything else

The next thing I am going to try is rubbing lemon juice on the corners of the sofa's in the hope the citrus scent will stop her

Do any other cat owners have experience of this?

PLEASE HELP!!!!! lol

Ally.

Not sure about cats but dogs hate the smell of neat peppermint essence or peppermint oil and we always use it to stop dogs chewing or peeing on things they shouldnt - do be careful it doesnt stain any fabric you use it on, sometimes I've put it on an old hankie or bit of unwanted fabric and attached it to something rather than use it direct.

Sorry Ally, as a fellow cat owner I have no other solutions, I gave up on trying to stop them...

Although I do love cornish's idea of lion poo  :D

Cut off its claws. People say this is cruel. it is not.

That;s a good idea..... does anyone know where I can find some lion poop in deepest darkest west mids? lol

Cut off its claws. People say this is cruel. it is not.

I have considered this, however, I would be scared incase she got out and was attacked by another cat or dog and would have no way to defend herself. That is the only reason I wouldn't do this.

you can buy dried lions poo in some garden centres!

I think cutting a cat's claws off may be illegal in this country but not 100% sure

Have to say I wouldn't want to cut my cats claws either.  Luckily my boys don't scratch their claws indoors, tend to use the wooden fence post.
