Title: best books to read????
Post by: zeemiller on February 22, 2012, 12:00:15 PM
i have two books on depression on is by someone whos suffered from it and the other by a medical person a doctor etc, i have found the one by the doctor very hard to read and understand as i use the books when depressed and when reading is hard eg your mind wont take anything in the simple reads the better and the book called
climbing out of depression bu sue atkinson really helps at times even if just read a bit etc do find making notes and sticking them in book helps as short versions of ideas are simple to take in when depressed etc,
are there any books others would recomed or ones that are easy to read bits of etc even when in dark place????

I've been reading CBT for Dummies (workbook)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cognitive-Behavioural-Therapy-Workbook-Dummies/dp/0470517018/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1329913042&sr=8-2

Got it out of the library, I've read a couple of other books but this one has been of most use to me (loathed to take it back  ;) )

take a look at this site  http://www.familyhealthguide.co.uk/depressive-illness-the-curse-of-the-strong.html  its very helpful - there is also a book which expands on it a bit  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Depressive-illness-curse-strong-Tim-Cantopher/dp/0859699749

Ive found it very useful and I think a few other people here have as well :)

I've never considered reading any books like that.
There is the fear of self diagnosis. That is not something I am prone to, but there is always the subconsious diagnosis  :-\

I don't even read the side-effects of my ADs until I have been taking them for a period of time then I can refer to the information with the ADs.

There are other books that I read - fiction and biographies mostly.

'Shoot the damn dog' by Sally Brampton helped me ALOT. Also am wading through the CBT for Dummies too -hard with little concentration but a little at a time x

I rarely read books on it because it makes feel worse but I will consider using it as lifeline or double check something
