Title: have no where to turn
Post by: matlondon on November 21, 2011, 11:31:38 PM
I suffer from depression panic attacked for 3 years now, I just don't want to live this way, I have tried to contact NHS but keep getting pushed aside because I am a white male in my 30s and get no help.
I suffer from ear infections on a regular basis, the property I’m in suffers from damp and mold, the building suffers from mold which adds to my depression and panic attacks, it has developed into OCD as well because I grind my teeth, I wake up with sweat patches on my bed and my tee shirt is soaked , I have no idea what to do. I had enough of my ear infections and was escorted off the premises by the security guards from the hospital, all i wanted was a proper diagnoses, not just 2 mins and here have drops see you in 6 weeks from doctors.

I have tried to get onto the council housing but have been refused, I just can’t live this way no more, I have tried to move properties, as I don’t work  i can't find any, because of my depression and ear infections so it's impossible, I feel my life is totally screwed.
I don’t feel I have a way out, I cry.
I want to turn my life around but i seems that i just can't do it.

hi matlondon

have you thought of changing your GP or surgery?  It seems dreadful that you arent getting proper help at the moment :(

Hi Matlondon you have been going through a difficult time and you feel stuck. It istn' nice to have recurring ear infections all the time and living in a property that isn't helping this is very difficult for you.

Please ask your GP to take an ear swab to culture it for bacteria. Antibiotics are specific to certain groups of bacteria and there is a simple test that can be done to see exactly what bacteria is infecting your ear and therefore exactly what antibiotic to treat it with. Also bacteria can be resistant to certain antibiotics, this test will also determine whether the bacteria in your ear will respond to the different types of antibiotics availble and therefor your GP can choose a suitable one and get rid ofthis once and for all. Also, treatment may even need to last 6-8 weeks to get on top of the problem for good. It is also very important that you tell your GP that you have mould and damp in your residence, and also a good idea to tell your landlord/council that you would like it investigating.

What makes you say that your GP wont treat you because you are a white male in your 30's?

Depression and panic attaks are very difficult to live with and it is very important you find the treatment you need and deserve and also an outlet to talk about how difficult this is. Hopefully we can help you with the last bit.

Take Care Lol.

I went to the  NHS emergency mental services and they just sent me away after 30 mins.

I would suggest you go to your GP, do you have one?  If not I would strongly suggest you register and make an appointment as its more than likely a doctor will be able to treat you in the first instance and if necessary refer you on to other  mental health services if necessary

Seems like i need to collect all information from my doctors and take it to see the ENT consultant otherwise the ENT hospital will just carry on doing the same, but not helping me find the cause.

I agree with your plan above Mat.

Lol is right about asking for a swab. i work in the NHS and sometimes you need to push a little harder than you should have to just to get things done - and when you feel like this I know you just dont need the extra grief. But keep fighting mate. Its not because they dont care, its usually just a lack of staffing and resources that lead to things getting missed. It could also be that because of the way you are feeling, they are seeing your emotions coming across more than your situation. Ask for those swabs and dont take no for an answer. Be polite but firm and site your reasons (just as lol has posted above) Im sure that this will give you the answer you need to get things moving.

Good luck mate.
