Post by: Zaf on May 15, 2012, 07:22:18 PM
Anyone know how to and any tips?!!

Mum just takes cuttings and pops them in potting compost and puts them in her conservatory.  My Montana that grows over our archway was a cutting she grew for me.

I'll give it a try, I have two that will have to be moved later in the year so thought I'd try to get cuttings in case they dont survive it.

My mum does the same. In fact that seems to be the approach she take with all cuttings  :)

Lol my mum is the same Buttercup, there are always cuttings in pots, most of my plants in the garden come from mum.

I'm still waiting for my carnation (pinks actually) cuttings to root...... the cold weather has really held them back. never tried with clematis, I might give it go

Any idea how long they take to root - not that I'm impatient or anything ;)

Mum said when they start sprouting new leaves.  All cuttings of clematis are different, she just pots them into bigger pots when then start to sprout.

Thats good Zaf, if only some of them take, you have done well and hardly cost you anything.

I think I did 4 each of 3 varieties, one variety looks a bit sick but at least a couple each of the others look reasonably OK :)

Just tried another load of cuttings, I've tried the same method but put a plastic bag over the pots like little mini greenhouses - fingers crossed!

I will definitely take pics if they survive!   I keep meaning to get before and after pics of the new patio to post as well as the veg garden

Did you get rain all day today? Noticed you posted that it was raining this morning.  It has been lovely all day here.  Even had to water tonight, from water butt and not with the hose  ;).

No, it stopped around 10ish and I managed to put a couple of rows of seeds in to replace the ones the slugs ate :(

I think the forecast is pretty wet for the weekend so we shouldnt have to be doing much watering for a few days

I know Craig has been moaning, he plays cricket on Saturdays (and Wednesday eve, cricket widow during the summer  ;)).  They talk of high wind as well, which I don't like as it does so much damage.

I dont like the wind either, all the lovage is on the floor already and more gales will blow the flowering plants to bits :(

Takes so many branches from the trees as well, they get heavy with rain then the wind comes and its dangerous.  Have to keep tying up Clematis's and honeysuckle as it kepps getting blown about  :(.

It will as they're in full leaf :(

I really dont like strong wind and its very unusual to get gales at this time of year, I have plans for a mega clear out of clothes if we get some bad weather, I need to keep busy atm, but I really want to get out in the garden if I can

They are always grinning when they forecast bad weather - they love it.
