Trazodone Shortage in UK
« on: April 28, 2013, 01:08:17 AM »
I have just been to my chemist for my latest issue of Trazodone

He only had 21 x 50mg in stock (I needed 84)

He told me there was a major UK shortage and not sure when he could get more in stock

Luckily another chemist had enough for me.

Hopefully stock levels will be restored soon but it if anyone is on it - you may be wise to ask your chemist about their stock holdings sooner rather than later !

Having said that - this forum seems to be extremely quiet so only a had full of regulars will see this - making a VERY small number who are actually on Trazodone - but if this post helps just one user it will be worth it.

Hi bendymind

That's quite a concern to think the Trazodone stock is so low.

I'm having the same problem here. My surgery had to phone round several pharmacies to get my Trazodone for me.

Just a thought....where does the Trazodone come from.? What country, I wonder?  I don't mean what company supplies or invented, I mean where are the pills made up into their little trays? I'm now having visions of them being packed in another country, where workers are pain 5p a day, or something.  Factory conditions would not follow UK standards and maybe they are filthy....the mind boggles...

Trazadone is increasingly being replaced by mirtazapine. Trazadone it is quite an unusual drug to prescribe considering that mirtazapine is usually the first drug of choice when selecting this group of medications.

I am having to come off Mirtazapine as it makes me a little manic and aggressive.

Stevie, Trazodone is an SARI - Mirtazapine is a NaSSA - totally different group of AD

Hey folks,
I work in a pharmacy in Yorkshire and we have also had trazadone problems.  Recently the 50mg capsules and 100mg capsules came back into stock probably for a fortnight around beginning of May but they are now back on shortage.  Some pharmacies should still have a supply though so if you have a prescription or due in next week or so you should be ok.  150mg tablets are a no hoper really they have been out for pushing six months now so when requesting your prescription ask if they could prescribe 50mg and 100mg capsules instead.  If you find you cannot get a supply anywhere and no other meds work for you so you are reluctant to change, then a trazadone syrup is available so perhaps your GP may temporarily put you on that.  The syrup isn't used hardly at all therefore suppliers will have plenty of stock for your pharmacy to buy.
Hope this helps
