...... or are other people getting completely and utterly fed up with the &@#$€¥ olympics before they've even begun? )_-
-
I've been fed up with em since they first started talking about it! The roads all around me are jammed packed due to Olympic lanes etc. Even stop us turning right from our very own street tut
-
Absolutely. Not watching much TV as I am fed up of them talking about it and then the ad breaks are about the Olympics as well (http://depressionforums.co.uk/dpf/mobiquo/emoji/E059.png). S x x
-
Thank goodness, I thought we were both being miserable @&$¥€#'s!
It must be a nightmare for you Cat with all the traffic upheaval :(
Z xx
-
Same here lol. Thought it was just me. S x x x x
-
Turned the TV on and there are people playing olympic football, I thought it didnt start till the weekend? I'm considering emigrating to an isolated island with no TV &*&
-
dont have a digi box, have a tv but just use it for console games and dvds. Am glad actually as we got one finally installed the other day in the lounge and I switched it on only to be bombared with adverts with an Olympic 'theme'. Everything from soap powder to shampoos. Ridiculous. I shall be avoiding tv for two weeks now. One good thing, now its started it will shortly be all over and never have to see all this crap again. The adverts I mean, not the Olympics
-
Lol Zaf I did the same thing. I thought it didn't start till the weekend either (http://depressionforums.co.uk/dpf/mobiquo/emoji/E40E.png). S x x x x
-
Too much self-generated hype and commercialism from scummy organisations like Lloyd's bank. I'd have much preferred the World Cup personally.
-
Omg not the world cup pleeeessssseeeeeee :o (&(
-
I don't watch the Olympics but I do watch the paralympics. I find it much more interesting and exciting.
-
Just been through the TV guide on sky and there are a load of new Olympic channels popped up. S. X x x
-
Oh what joy :-\
D is so fed up with it all he's watching Men in Black for the umpteenth time ::)
Z xx
-
I am getting all 'soaped' out. C is playing cricket. So no moaning tonight about how many are on ;). S x x

besides the athletes competing within the 2 week framework the rest of it all seems a big money making scam which outside of London, I dont see where anywhere will benefit from it. It so hyped, all of it.
The Olympic flame came down the street next to us, literally a minutes walk from where I live. There was all this buzz and hype and the were going over the top on the local news about it that very evening. Suddenly the street was packed out and even a helicopter overhead fliming it all making a racket. I watched it all on the local news channel. When I saw it was getting near my house I popped my head out and saw it, at least from a distance saw the Olympic torch go by for all of two seconds. Then everyone dispersed and 20 mins later the street was back to normal. But it was so hyped on the local news, in fact most of the half hour slot was given over to this 'important event'. I just thought it was all such bull****. Why does everything seem so hyped and corporate these days? Is it just the media age we live in perhaps. It will never change, just have to find ways of avoiding it.
-
It seems wall to wall olympics at the moment and the commercial element at times becomes overwhelming :(
-
Its just to much, it spoils it. We will probably watch the opening ceremony but that will be it.
S x x x x
-
just 2 weeks n will all be over i like tennis so as olympic tennis at wimbledon be like having two wimbledons in one year 8-)
-
I might watch the tennis and the horsey sports but not much else
-
Can anybody explain this one to me?
I thought the Olympics was supposed to for amateurs but the footballers are professionals.
-
So are the tennis players ::)
-
Oh, good grief, I don't mind watching the athletics but I prefer the para olympics =+-
-
Turned the 'news' on - wall to wall olympics, hasnt anything else happened in the world today?
Started watching the 'local news' - wall to wall olympics, obviously nothing newsworthy has happened in East Anglia today.
The weather forecast was Olympics orientated
OK, some people like the Olympics but some of us are so fed up with it by now we feel the need to emigrate somewhere the damned Olympics dont get even one minute of air time
*(* *(* *(*
-
Lol. I said the same. We are watching the opening ceremony. Its so funny. The clouds arriving made us laugh. X x
-
I've watched half an hour of it and toally unimpressed so off to bed
Z xx
-
We're still watching it. It's funny though how watching something like this can bring back happy memories. We were living in South Wales when it was the Queen's Golden Jubilee and on this particular day we had gone to Treorchy forgetting that the Queen would be going through as part of her tour. Anyway we decided wait. At that time we had three dogs and the youngest was only 3 months old so I picked him up because we were right by the barriers with loads of people round us. As the Queen's car passed she saw Bruno in my arms and told Prince Philip so he leaned forward and they both smiled.
-
Oh pip that's lovely. We are enjoying the ceremony. So well done I think. Really surprised. S x x x x
-
Enjoying the show as well, we're going to the Paralympics =+- =+-
-
Oh wow lucky you (http://depressionforums.co.uk/dpf/mobiquo/emoji/E057.png). S x x x x
-
We applied for both, didn't get the Olympic ones but got good seats for the Paralympics. getting excited now.
-
I bet and am a little bit jealous as I like the para olympics.
-
I must be the only person that didnt like it ::)
-
even though I truly did get sick of all the hype and predominantly the advertisers using it as an excuse to sell products, now its on I am watching it. I thought the opening ceremony was fantastic, ok abit over the top but also done with a sense of humour.
-
I didn't intend to watch all of it but had to watch it all once I started watching. My furbabies including Tasha the cat had a very late walk because of it.
-
I was watching some Diving today and didn't find it that interesting, and thought 'who cares about bloody diving?!'. Then I watched some of Deal or No Deal and some bloke went away with £0.00, zilch. He was crying and everyone was saying he was a champion, seriously. Then I thought about those Athletes who train so hard for years in extremely difficult events for that shot of Olympic glory, yet remain dignified when not quite making the podium. So I took back all I thought about Diving and asked myself, how can someone who goes on a TV program that involves nothing more then pure luck be classed as a champion alongside the future champions of say the marathon next Sunday, or any event?
So I have the upmost respect for any Althlete at the Olmypics, after this.
-
Most athletes and competitors at that level are incredibly dedicated, its the hype that gets me
-
I agree Zaf. I admire their dedication. But all the hype gets on my nerves to. S x x x x
-
We have tickets for Tuesday. Yes it's only the women's football but it's the Olympics all the same. Really looking forward to it
-
That's great Kate. S x x x x
-
Hope you enjoy it Kate xx
I think whats really annoying me atm is that the news is no longer the news but yet another olympic report &*&
-
I'm really warming to the Olympics. There are athletes you never hear off at any other time, and I really respect them. They work hard and are dedicated, that is for sure. You never see them wobbling out of posh nightclubs with trophy Blondes on each arm, or getting arrested for whatever, like footballers on 100k a week. The quietly slave away, training everyday. $%$
-
Very true, I could just do without all the hype!
-
I agree with that, Zaf. Have you tried navigating the BBC website to find certain results? It is so convoluted and awkward, I now use Wikipedia; much easier. I do think it is mind boggling how they organised it all in minute detail, but yes the hype is not in proportion, it all seemed more about Seb Coe and Boris Johnson then the athletes.
-
No I havent and not sure if I'll tackle it if its that bad! I get the equestrian results via a horsey web site and fortunately thats very straightforward.
It would be nice to watch the National news that is actually news rather than a round up of the olympics too
Z x
-
David was watching the triathalon (?) this morning and I really did admire the women competing, it looked a really hard sport
-
I agree. Really hard sport to compete in. S x x x x

I don't know if other parts of the country are hearing the 'inside news' on Londoners opinions on the Olympics. I live near the very busy York road and only 3 miles from the city. In 14 years, I've never known it to be so deadly quiet, almost spooky. The Olympic Lanes are constantly empty, diversion of traffic utterly pointless.
Business in Central London is at an all time low. Theatre's, shops, pubs and restaurants are extremely quiet. Extra buses litter the roads, empty. It's thought, not only have tourists avoided visiting London, many Londoners have taken time off work in anticipation of it being so very busy, as the Government and Olympic Organising Team had us believe.
Just like the Millenium Dome, the millions extra income to the Capital they said would justify their expenditure, just never materialised. :-\
If a plumer came to your home and quoted 100 quid for a job, only to then charge you 600, would you pay him? Of course not. But., that's what these big fat cat building contractors are allowed to do. The whole project is millions over budget. And the very same business's who fill their greedy pockets are probably the same who provide the Government with their biggest donations. &*&
Sorry, but I feel the country should never have tried for the bid in the first place, considering the financial position we are in. It makes me sick to hear of the money spent... wasted... when we have children up and down the country living in so much poverty; many going to school without food and spending weekends without any meals at all, while living in cold damp council flats in squalled housing estates.
The failed Millenium dome was one of Blair's legacies... the Olympics are down to the other donuts. :o
Ah.... I feel better for that, but am very aware that many don't share my opinions so I'm probably in the firing line here
&(& &(&
-
I had heard that many businesses were suffering but probably not realised the full extent of it.
I totally agree with you about the millenium dome, I will reserve judgement about the olympics till we see what the 'legacy' turns out to be!
Z xx
-
Don't get me wrong, now it's here, I have nothing against anyone enjoying them... just the principle...
-
Its a huge amount of money to put them on and I'm a bit sceptical the country will get the benefits the politicians are trying to persuade us we will
-
I am watching some of the Olympics and glad Team GB are winning medals my gripe is the amount of money spent. Our gripe has been that money could have been better spent on children, the poor / homeless, social housing even employing more nurses and doctors.
-
Pew.... I'm glad I'm not alone then
-
I agree with what you say Pip. Some of the venues they have spent all this money on will go to rack and ruin. So wrong :(. S x x x x
-
Just gold in the team showjumping, nailbiting finish!
-
Thats great another to add to the board $%$.
S x x x x
-
I think we have 3 individuals with a good chance of a medal too. Tomorrow is the dressage and we're doing well in that so far as well _)_
Z xx
-
Sounds positive then. I am amazed we have so many medals. Considering what a small country we are in comparison to most. S x x x x
-
It makes a nice change =+-
Z xx
-
It sure does :). S x x x x
-
Off to watch the diving _)_
-
Same here lol. S x x x x
-
Making me feel bad just looking at them on that board. Not good with heights :( S x x x x
-
I too am a miserable £$*"@ and cant be doing with the Olympics... not that im not proud to be British because I am, I just dont think it needs to take over the TV and peoples lives!
-
It wont be long before its over bomboola _)_
I have twice jumped off a diving platform that high shaz, as a bet, and its terrifying!

Oh wow. I couldn't have done it I would pass out. S x x x x
